What it is

A remote, not a cloud.

Hermes is a self‑hosted AI agent gateway. It runs profiles: independent agents, each with its own model, tools, memory and personality, on a machine you own. Vory connects to that gateway and turns every profile into a bot: a small living character with a body, eyes and a colour, drawn in Liquid Glass.

Your machine

Your agents run where you put them. Vory talks to your gateway directly, over your LAN, Tailscale or a Cloudflare Tunnel. No port‑forwarding, no middleman.

Your call

When a bot wants to run a shell command or change a file, it waits for your yes. From the chat, from a notification, from the Lock Screen.

Your cast

Every agent is a character, so a house of bots is a cast, not a list of sessions. You always know who is talking and what they are doing.

How it works

The loop.

Connect once. Then every turn goes the same way: you ask, a bot thinks, uses its tools, asks you before anything risky, and replies. Its face tells you what it is doing.

Connect

Point Vory at your gateway: local network, Tailscale, Cloudflare Tunnel, or any URL. Sign in with its token. A guided tour introduces the bots.

Meet your bots

Every profile on the gateway appears as a bot. Design it in the Creator Studio: 8 body shapes, 8 eye styles, any colour, flat or Liquid Glass.

Talk

Messages‑style chats. Bubbles with tails, typing indicators, streamed replies with live token counts, reasoning you can unfold, tool cards, attachments, “/” commands, steering mid‑reply, dictation.

Approve

When a bot needs a yes, an approval card appears in the chat, in a notification, and in the Live Activity on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Approve and Deny are right there.

Get told

The Vory Companion, a small plugin installed on the gateway from the app, sends replies as notifications from the bot, keeps the Live Activity on its phase, and delivers approval requests instantly. Reply from the notification.

Group chats

Put two to six bots in one room and let them talk to you and to each other. Each reply carries its bot’s face.

Run the gateway

Settings for every profile: model, config, API keys, tools, skills, MCP servers, approvals policy, scheduled tasks, sessions, channels, system health, logs, restarts and updates.

Apple Intelligence, on‑device, gives every chat a title and a two‑line summary in the list. Nothing leaves the phone.

What it’s doing

Idle bots barely move: a blink every few seconds, a glance to one side, a rare slow blink. Their eyes follow your scroll.

Idle life

Blinks every ~4 s, every third a double blink. A glance every ~7 s. A rare slow blink. Eyes follow where you scroll. Every bot has its own timing, so a page of them never blinks in unison.

Working

Every 3 s, one small routine: the signature coin‑turn, a glance‑turn, a head tilt, a nod, a lean, a scan, a squint‑and‑settle, a light travelling the glass rim.

States you can read at a glance

Thinking becomes a heavier pebble. Using a tool grows a small stem. Waiting for your approval becomes a bold “!” and holds. An error drops its eyes and the light dies. Reconnecting sweeps its eyes like a metronome. Finished: one full turn.

Approve from your pocket

The agent waits for you.
Not the other way round.

A shell command, a file change, anything that needs a yes: the card lands in the chat, in a notification, and in the Live Activity on your Lock Screen. Once, for the session, always, or deny.

The Live Activity and the reply notification, rebuilt in HTML from the app’s own layouts. Reply from the notification and the answer comes back the same way.

Talk

Chats that feel like Messages.

Bubbles with tails, typing indicators: grey while the bot writes, dark with a badge while it runs a tool.
Replies stream in with a live token count. Reasoning unfolds when you want it. Tool calls become cards.
Attach photos and files as cards. Type “/” for commands. Steer a bot mid‑reply. Dictate.
The chat list shows every bot; with Summaries on, each chat gets a title and two lines, made on the phone.
Group chats put two to six bots in one room, each reply carrying its bot’s face.

What is Hermes?

A self‑hosted AI agent gateway. It runs profiles, independent agents with their own model, tools, memory and personality, on a machine you own, and exposes them over a dashboard and a WebSocket API. Vory is a client for that API.

Does Vory need an account or a cloud?

No. Vory signs in to your gateway with its token and talks to it directly. There is no Vory account.

What is the Vory Companion?

A small plugin you install on the gateway from the app. It sends replies as notifications from the bot, keeps the Live Activity updated with the bot’s phase, and delivers approval requests instantly. The app updates it in place.

How do I reach my gateway from outside my home?

Over Tailscale, or behind a Cloudflare Tunnel, or any URL that reaches the dashboard. Vory has a connection type for each with the right hints. No port‑forwarding needed.

Is it on the App Store? Android? Mac?

Not yet: it is a TestFlight public beta. iPhone on iOS 27 only for now.

Why do the bots move so little?

On purpose. A glance, a squint, a lean, a light on the rim. The 360° coin‑turn is the one flourish, saved for when a reply finishes. Reduce Motion turns the bodies still; the eyes may still blink.
